Challenges of the district : Our research with local communities There are industries in Porbandar which has led to
environment degradation.
The development of industries has been stagnant. Due to this unemployment
has increased.
Provisions of higher education are needed. Children move out of Porbandar
for studying in colleges. There are no technical or medical colleges
here.
Government should not neglect Porbandar. We need industrial revolution
and facilities for higher education..
Brief About Porbandar District This city is an important port located on the
Arabian Sea on the west coast of the Indian subcontinent. It has
a population of over 100,000. The town is best known for being
the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. In the 10th century it was known
as 'Pauravelakul' and then 'Sudamapuri' (After Sudama, friend
of Lord Krishna). It is today a tourist centre and is served by
an airport and train line. In addition it also has a deep sea
port that was built over the last 25 years. The name "Porbandar"
came from the combination of two words, i.e., the famous goddess
"Porai" and "Bandar" means Port.
