Tehsil Ramban comprises eleven PatwarHalqas with sixty one (old settlement) villages having a population of 86343, whileTehsil Banihal comprises fourteen Patwar Halqas with thirty three villages havingpopulation of 94487 as per 2001 census. Batote is a territorial Niabat of Tehsil Rambanwith its headquarter at Batote, the boundaries of which start from Patnitop and extendupto 12 kms on Batote-Doda road (National Highway 1-B) and around 25 kms towardsRamban on National Highway 1-A. The Sub-District is bounded by District Ramban onthe North, Tehsil Doda on the East and District Udhampur on the South as well as West.

For the purpose of defining geographical boundaries of new DistrictRamban, the Demarcation Committee visited Sub-District headquarter and interactedwith various deputations. The issue of fixing boundaries of new District Ramban was alsodiscussed with District Development Commissioner Doda and other senior officers ofDistrict Administration. After considering the recommendations of Districtadministration as well as suggestions/views expressed by the public as also thememoranda received by the Committee, following main issues emerged:-

  1. That a new Tehsil with its headquarter at Assar be created by includingvillages falling in Niabats Assar and Batote to be part of District Doda.
  2. That Niabat Batote be upgraded to a Tehsil with its headquarter at Batote, including therein certain villages located across/along-side the right bankof river Chenab, to be part of new District Ramban
  3. That villages forming part of Block/Niabat Gool be attached with TehsilRamban to be part of new District Ramban.
  4. That a new District be created in respect of areas comprising Mahore,Gool-Gulabgarh and Arnas, and till such time this demand is met, areasfalling in Gool-Mahore may not be attached with Ramban but should beallowed to continue as part of erstwhile District Udhampur.
  5. That Patwar Halqas Chaka Kundi and Shamti be made part of TehsilRamban after their deletion from Tehsil Doda.
