About District District Headquarter: Alipur North 24 Parganas
: A district with densely populated urban fringe of the metropolitan
city of Calcutta with already built up city of Salt Lake and the
up-coming New City at Rajarhat on one side and the remote riverine
villages in the Sundarbans on the other has made the district
rich in all activities. Agriculture, Industry and pisciculture
are all at their peak in the district. South 24 Parganas : With
urban fringe of the metropolitan city of Calcutta on one side
and the remote riverine villages in the Sundarbans. Agriculture,

Interested Places Barrackpore is about 24 kms north of Calcutta and lies
opposite to Serampore. It probably derives its name from being
the military barracks of the company forces. It still serves as
a cantonment. The main attraction today is the Gandhi ghat on
the banks of the river Hooghly.
