Number of districts
IndianNGOs.com has always given substantial importance to Districts,
because we believe that while it is true that the social &
developmental challenges change from village to village or perhaps
taluka (block of villages) to taluka, the best way to capture
them is covering the canvas of districts. (States are too large
and there is lot of variation within states).
We therefore appreciate the government's vision of development
plans for districts and the budgetory provision for district development.
We have been checking on the number of districts in the country
very regularly and many times are questioned as to how the number
of districts on IndianNGOs.com (655) is more than that of government
portals. In reality, we must share that most of our district information
sources come from states (we check the number of districts in
each state by calling the offices of the CM's, in addition to
our secondary search).
How do we plan to develop the district
forums
IndianNGOs.com has started interviewing NGOs from districts across
India and we have so far covered 550 district interviews.
During 2013-14, our plan is to invite a minimum of 3 to 5 NGOs
from over 600 districts to share the local causes. This will mean
that we all get opportunity to start understanding the canvas
of over 92% of India.
