Challenges
of the district : Our research with local communities People live below the poverty line. Women of Khunti
face lot of hardships. Government has hardly done any development
for them. The SHGs are also not able to do much for the women due
to lack of funding. The literacy rate in villages is very low as
compared to towns. Watershed development is yet to be done. Irrigation
infrastructure is very weak. There is acute shortage of clean drinking
water. Due to lack of work people migrate to other places in search
of work. Even today when people fall sick they do not go to hospitals
for treatment. They still prefer the traditional methods which are
more plant based and tantriks. Government should sensitize the people
about health and encourage them to be literate.
