Challenges of the district : Our research with local communities
When Kosi river was flooded in 2008, I lost my field, crops and my house. We are Presently living in a tent. During the floods, along with the water, came sand. Now my land has become less fertile. To meet ends, I have to work as a labour outside. Here also, I get work for only about 15 days.

Brief About Mamit District

A joint exploration tour was undertaken in Mamit (Mizoram, India) with the ICAR Research Complex for the northeastern hill region of Barapani (Meghalaya, India) during 16-24 January 2004. The collection of germplasm was concentrated in the area where the possibilities of maximum diversities are available depending upon the local information. The remote and unexplored localities were given priority for the collection. The elevation of the area covered 50-950 m. A total of 434 accessions, belonging to various indigenous crops (including citrus, ginger, turmeric, cowpea, cucumber, watermelon, pawpaw, cotton and medicinal plants), were collected. Tabulated lists of crops and accessions collected, including information on their status and indigenous technical knowledge, are provided
