Mission

The mission of J.K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana is to significantly improve the quality of life in Indias rural areas through a 'Cattle Breed Improvement Programme' (CBIP) that achieves the following goals:
-
Reducing Infant Mortality and Malnutrition : Surplus milk generated by high milk yielding cows and buffaloes helps to reduce infant mortality [especially caused by malnutrition in the age group of less than 12 months] and malnutrition among children.

Creating Employment : To provide employment opportunities for rural educated, unemployed youth.

Alleviating Poverty : Increased milk production enables participating farmers to effectively supplement their income by sale of surplus milk.

Objectives

- Production of Upgraded/Crossbred cattle with better genetic make up for higher productivity resulting into enhanced milk production without any additional cost to the farmers.
- Production of Upgraded/Crossbred cattle which will fetch better market price than that of indigenous cattle.
- Conservation of indigenous dairy cattle breeds of India.
- Development of nutritious fodder especially high in protein for arid and semi arid zones.
- To impart training to the farmers:

  • To adopt 'Cattle Breed Improvement Programme' for production of high milk yielding cattle.
  • Management of crossbred/high milk yielding cattle.
  • Improved animal husbandry practices.
  • Improved fodder growing practices.

Cattle Breed Improvement Programme (CBIP) The main objective of this programme is to Upgrade/Crossbreed the local indigenous low milk-yielding cows and buffaloes by breeding through artificial insemination (A.I) with the use of high pedigree frozen semen of indigenous/ exotic breeds.The success of Cattle Breed Improvement Programme in creating employment, alleviating poverty and reducing malnutrition has received the attention of various State Governments of the country. The Trust is currently operating a network of 1718 Integrated Livestock Development (ILD) Centres in 55 Districts of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Gujrat, Rajasthan and Bihar.

CBIP States Implementation : Chhattisgarh J K Trust commenced operations in Chhattisgarh during 1997.
From inception till 30 June, 2008 we have produced 87672 upgraded/crossbred calves.
Out of 87,672 calves- 38467 calves were born from 210 centres which has compleated a project period of 5 years.

Madhya Pradesh
J K Trust initiated our operations in Madhya Pradesh during September 2000. Currently, we are operating 303 ILD centres in 19 districts of Madhya Pradesh, out of which 51 centres are operated under Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihood Projects (MPRLP). Thirty two centres are established under Rashtriya sam Vikas Yojana. Under Innovative SGSY, 210 centres are under operation in 14 districts at present.
We have so far produced 49,019 upgraded/crossbred calves since inception till 30th June, 2008.
Out of 49,019 calves - 44,038 calves were born from 121 centres which have completed a project period of 5 years.

CBIP States Implementation :
Andhra Pradesh
J K Trust operated 150 ILD centres in 2 districts of the state namely Chittoor and Anantapur. Our programme in Andhra Pradesh has resulted in production of 1,28,174 upgraded/crossbred calves. After completion of the project period of 5 years these centres were handed over ( from November 1, 2005) to Andhra Pradesh Livestock Development Agency for the regular supply of semen and liquid nitrogen. These centres have now become self-sustaining and are running smoothly on their own.

J K Trust initiated our operations in 25 ILD centres of Kalsi and Chakrata blocks of Dehradun district of Uttarakhand during July 2006. Five ILD centres in these blocks have become operational from 1st January, 2007.

Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihood Projects (MPRLP) The project is focused on the following groups:
Landless, marginal and small farmers, Agriculture and non-farm workers, Rural artisans, Migrants, Women
Our trust plays the role of resource agency for providing the services of breeding, health, nutrition and management of livestock in these four districts with an objective to improve their productivity. We have established 51 Integrated Livestock Development Centres in these four districts. These ILD centres are managed by 51 Gopals and a team of 7 veterinarians is monitoring the operation of these centers.

Chattisgarh District Poverty Reduction Project (CGDPRP) Role of J.K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana in CGDPRP:
J.K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana is operating a Project Facilitation Team (PFT) in a cluster of 42 Gram Panchayats of Kurud block of District Dhantari with the following objectives:
To facilitate the weaker section of community to organize in CIGs.
To support the CIGs to formulate proposals for activities to be undertaken by them.
To prepare sub-projects and help CIGs in adopting mitigating measures.
To help CIGs in establishing linkages with the banks, government offices, market and mandis etc.
To ensure training of CIGs in project preparation, project management, accounting and book keeping.
Monitoring of sub-projects and documentation.

Progress report upto November 2007:
385 Common Interest Groups (CIGs) have been formed and sanctioned, out of which 37 are managed by women.
The CIGs have started following activities
