Core
Values
Naandis
work culture has evolved out of the teams intention to
make working with and for Naandi, a pleasure. And from among
the myriad values that set us apart the key ones that have helped
us be what we are today are:
Integrity
At Naandi, integrity is sacrosanct. The organisation believes
in honesty, transparency and accountability in all matters -
from fund utilisation and sharing of information, to delivery
of work. For us dependability and credibility is the touchstone
of how we work and what we do.
Teamwork
Naandi recognises that there is no alternative to teamwork if
we have to help 256 million underprivileged people win the battle
against poverty. We also encourage feedback and consensus on
program design and implementation across cadres and verticals
to promote out-of-box thinking, which has been powered several
innovations we have created. This culture has also been successful
in creating a feeling of bonding and collective responsibility
towards working against all odds for the realisation of our
vision.
Professionalism
Our earnest endeavour is to be a responsible and responsive
partner who is objective and professional in thought, word and
deed by adhering to high quality of work and commitments made
towards realizing our vision in all spheres of work with all
our stakeholders.
Passion
If you are a member of team Naandi then you will sooner than
later feel intensely involved in the lives of the people we
work with at the grassroots - the prevalence of poverty and
inequality in our society and need to change the equation of
inequity. We believe in igniting a spark (as our logo signifies)
in everybody around us with the spirit of sharing and caring,
the values of respecting human dignity, the need for sharing
knowledge, and the passion towards giving back to society to
make it a more equal world.

Initiatives
1)
Right to Education
India is
among the most dangerous places in the world for a child to
be in. We are sixth in a global poll, which ranks countries
where children are most vulnerable (source Reuter-Alertnet poll
2006).
But unlike war-torn countries, it is the violence of poverty
that makes the Indian child vulnerable. Consequently, when it
comes to investing in the country, in its future, the need to
pay close attention to the needs of poor children who outnumber
their better off peers by millions, cannot be overstated.
By enabling
children born into disadvantaged families access to opportunities
that enable them to be productive, responsible citizens of the
country, Naandis Child Rights portfolio which spans urban
slums, rural villages and tribal hamlets across the country
takes on the responsibility of nation building together with
the state.
Our portfolio
derives from a range of government programs in the country -
be it for safe motherhood, integrated child development, or
for elementary education - that have enormous potential to improve
the quality of life of children. The conviction that every child
is entitled to quality care and nurture, and at various stages
of life she must get essential health, education and nutritional
inputs irrespective of whether her parents can pay for it or
not, guides our interventions. They cover the entire lifecycle
of a child - right from conception to pre-adulthood -converging
critical inputs of health, nutrition and education to equip
her with those faculties and capabilities necessary to improve
her life chances.
2)
Safe Drinking Water
Make it
possible for a habitation to get its safe water plant faster
by donating towards the minimum contribution required from the
village community to set up a Community Safe Water System i.e
20% to 40% of the plant cost depending on capacity. Naandi Foundation
will inspire the village inhabitants (community members and
panchayat) to match your contribution. Naandi will also work
to get Indian commercial banks/ other finance institutions to
facilitate the mobilization of the balance required for the
completion of the project.
We also
encourage you to donate any amount towards the ongoing behavioral
change campaign to educate rural communities on the need to
consume safe water and adopt hygienic sanitation practices.
Your contribution will be utilized to train men and women in
each village to spread awareness on water and sanitation through
meetings, theatre, literature, music and art with a special
focus on womens groups and school children.
A special
mention of your contribution will be made in the acknowledgment
plaque that will be created at respective safe water plants
in the habitations that have been supported by generous donation.
3)
Livelihoods
Opportunities for enterprise, equal access to knowledge, financial,
employability skills, social and infrastructural capital to
make informed livelihood choices are some of the biggest needs
among socially and economically underserved communities that
are grappling with poverty.
In this context, the two segments this portfolio has been designed
for are small and marginal farmers which provide end-to-end
solutions to improving incomes, and Pride schools - institutions
that train economically backward youth from socially marginalised
communities with employable skills.
Organic Farming
LiftIrrigation
Stable,
regular incomes continues to elude a majority of rural and tribal
farming populations. This is largely because of their dependence
on depleting natural resources, uncertain weather, lack of knowledge
of income alternatives, extortionate credit sources and access
to fair and competitive markets. To change this, our effort
has been to support such livelihood practices that will give
communities greater control over their circumstances.
The keystone
of this effort is to create cooperatives. The congregation of
small and marginal farmers into collectives trained to function
as social enterprises that will create sustainable revenue models
for themselves and play a leading role in their member's development
by making appropriate social, economical and eco-friendly decisions.
To make
this happen skill enhancement and knowledge transfer to help
farmers improve the production of their own seeds, manure, tools
and pest control techniques, replace exploitative credit practices
with linkages to existing pro-farmer government schemes and
bank loans, encouraging a culture of financial discipline, promoting
Natural Resource Management based activities to not only revive
incomes but entire eco systems, making drought hit-regions water
sufficient these have been our interventions that have
created models of financial security and income for some of
the worst affected communities in the country.
For socially
backward youth, we train them with employable skills, through
institutions that are set up in partnership with corporates,
to create a top of line employability finishing school that
groom and train young boys and girls with mainstream capabilities
so they are better able to secure gainful employment in the
organized sector.
