As a Social Venture Philanthropist, Smile Foundation promotes and catalyses universal education among underprivileged children, create the process to embrace these children into mainstream in a sustained manner, facilitate them to emerge as productive assets, and set the foundation for nation building.

Mission Education Smile Foundation’s educational initiatives include Crèche [0-3 yrs], Pre-school [3-6 yrs], Non Formal Education [6-14 yrs non-school going], Remedial Education [6-14 yrs school going], Bridge Course [14-18 yrs drop-outs], Functional Literacy [18-45 yrs women] and Family Life Education for adolescent girls.

Smile Twin e-Learning Projects [STeP] The SMILE Twin e-Learning Project is an effort towards creating a pool of independent youth living with dignity from the underprivileged section through skill enhancement in tandem with market requirements. The project aims at preparing urban underprivileged (adolescent youths) with skills in English Proficiency, Basic Computer Education and Soft Skills for enhancing their prospects of employment in fast expanding sectors like retail outlets, hospitality and BPOs sectors.

Smile on Wheels

National Mobile Hospital Programme
Smile on Wheels is a national level mobile hospital programme from Smile Foundation, catering to the underprivileged children and women in remote rural areas and urban slums.

Vision Behind the Programme
: Smile Foundation launched the programme as part of its endeavour to introduce healthcare awareness and contemporary healthcare services seeking behaviour among the rural masses and the underprivileged.
Future Outlook
: Smile Foundation aims to run a fleet of 30 fully equipped mobile medical vans under Smile on Wheels programme reaching out to around 35-40 lakh beneficiaries in coming five years.

Taking Healthcare to the Doorsteps of the Urban Poor
Smile Foundation launched the phase – II of its innovative programme ‘Smile on Wheels’ on 10th of June, 2008 at Constitution Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi. The launch function was marked by the flagging off of two ‘Smile on Wheels’ mobile hospitals by Ms Renuka Chowdhury, the Minister for Women and Child Development, Govt. of India. The two mobile hospitals would be providing health care services to un-reached populations in slums and urban villages of Delhi and Chennai and aim to cover a target population area of more than 4 lakhs. Swabhiman, an initiative of Smile Foundation, aims to bring pride and dignity for our girl. Swabhiman, meaning self-respect, is a programme designed to enable women to realize their full potential in every sphere, be it home, office or community. This programme helps in enhancing the skills and information relevant to make them realize their self-esteem. Again, Swabhiman is not anti-men, but it encourages women to defend themselves and escape from violence and advocates men to be a part of bringing due dignity for our girl child.

Action for Children [AFC]

Action for Children [AFC] an innovative programme designed to create a world filled with love and care.
. A programme aimed at sensitizing people about the plight of underprivileged children.
. A programme aimed at making people `Act’ to make a difference in the lives of these children.

The Programme
‘Action for Children’ is a step in the right direction with the aim to:
-
Deploy strong advocacy instruments for the benefit of children through the media.
-
Sensitize and encourage individuals and various civil society groups, trade, industry and professional associations, schools, colleges, youth clubs, youth wings, corporate employees and others to undertake innovative fundraising events and activities for child-focused projects in their local area.
- Initiate the process of making local organisations for children, self-reliant and reduce their dependence on the government or other sources of funds.
- Build the capacity of these organisations to ensure their sustainability in the long run.
- Encourage and support local actions, which raise funds for child-focused projects, contributing towards realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and helping in promotion of child rights.
An innovative approach :
The AFC programme is targeted towards creating awareness among the masses regarding issues concerning children. It seeks to motivate people to mobilize resources for child-focused projects through innovative fundraising activities and events. The icing on the cake is that the net funds raised shall get doubled through Smile Foundation’s matching grant support.

Special Programme for Children at Risk in Mumbai Slum
Smile Foundation and CORP (Community Outreach Programme) have taken up the mission of brining smile to children and women through the education and health care programme in slum clusters of Thane and Mumbai in Maharashtra.
Desired Impact
-
50% of the children given NFE (non school going and also school dropouts) should be mainstreamed to some formal schools in appropriate class during the year and their retention in school ensured through follow–ups.
- Children in the age group of 10 - 14 would be persuaded to study up to middle class level - informal or formal school - at least 70% of children in age group 10-12. Children in age-group 13-14 and above may be facilitated to undergo some skills training once they acquire basic literacy.
- Severely children with malnutrition and anemia; and specifically girls should be given proper care and brought to the growth char
Smile Foundation and Community Outreach Programme (CORP) aspire to give a new direction to these children and set an example of community welfare in Mumbai slums.

Smile for street children of Bangalore
Bosco’s project Availing Formal Education to Street Children of Bangalore Metro Programme take care of 60 street children in Bosco Vikas, a shelter home. These street children are mainstreamed in formal schools & they stay at this centre. All necessary facilities, like uniforms, books, extra curricular activities, meals, coaching classes are given to the poor children. The project provides basic necessities& educational needs to street children (boys) for a period of one year.
